  • What is a micro-credential?
    • Micro-credential is a certification of assessed learning of a single or a set of courses which are intended to provide learners with knowledge, skills, values and competencies in a narrow area of study and/or practice.

  • What will I get once I have completed the micro-credentials?
    • You will be awarded with a digital badge once you have passed the assessment.

  • What are the type of micro-credentials that I can earn?
    • There are two types of micro-credentials: standalone micro-credentials and credit-bearing micro-credentials.

      Standalone micro-credentials are for upskilling purposes while credit-bearing ones can be credit-transferred into academic courses in an academic programme.

  • Why are micro-credentials valuable?
    • Metadata is embedded in the digital badges that are awarded to learners. They provide information regarding who issued the micro-credentials as well as the competencies that were attained in order to get them. a micro-credential not only represents mastery of skill, but can also be a tool that shows colleagues, employers and potential employers how mastery was achieved.

  • Are there any minimum entry requirements to enrol in a micro-credential course?
    • There are no formal entry requirements to enrol in a micro-credential course. However, if the learners want to use the micro-credential/s to gain an academic award/qualification, they must meet the minimum entry requirements before they enrol into the specific programme.

  • Are all micro-credentials offered online?
    • No. They can be offered in conventional and blended mode.

  • Is there an age limit to enrol?
    • No.

  • Are micro-credentials limited to Malaysians?
    • No. It is open to both Malaysian and Non-Malaysian. However, credit transfer of micro-credentials to academic programmes may not be accepted by some governments.

  • Can these micro-credentials be recognised i.e. given credits if these learners enrol in academic programmes?
    • Yes, recognition can be given as follows:

      a. Where micro-credentials are considered a part of an accredited programme, the micro-credentials are treated as completion of credit if tendered to the same HEP.

      b. Where the micro-credentials are not considered a part of an accredited programme, it can be tendered to any HEP for credit transfer.

      c. Where the micro-credentials are standalone, it can be tendered under APEL C mechanism for credit recognition

  • How much is the micro-credential fee?
    • The fee ranges from RM500 – RM700, depending on the type of micro-credential and the mode of delivery.

  • How long is the duration for a micro-credential course?
    • A micro-credential can take between 4 hours (1/2 day) to 160 hours (20 days) to complete.
